You should read Utopia for Realists: https://www.amazon.com/dp/0316471917

It addresses a lot of concerns about UBI in a very accessible way. UBI isn't a new concept and it has been well studied. (It was almost implemented in the USA as a more streamlined alternative to the byzantine welfare state, but the Democrats sunk it.

Despite what we hear in the media, the world has gotten so much better in many ways in the last couple of hundred years. That's not to say there aren't big issues, or no things that have gotten worse, but there's a clear and very strong overall trend.

See for example

The Better Angels of Our Nature: A History of Violence and Humanity, by Steven Pinker https://www.amazon.com/Better-Angels-Our-Nature-Violence/dp/...

Or the first chapter of Utopia for Realists: How We Can Build the Ideal World, by Rutger Bregman https://www.amazon.com/Utopia-Realists-Build-Ideal-World/dp/...

Utopia for Realists[1] has several chapters on the basic income experiments of the 70's, and the conclusions people have reached when analyzing the data from them against various control groups. Entire towns provided with basic income had higher rates of kids graduating, lower rates of domestic violence, lower medical costs, and less homelessness.

It contains extensive citations, and costs about twelve to seventeen bucks on Amazon[2], depending on whether you buy it as an e-book, paperback, or hardback. If you don't wanna spend that much money, buy it and send a picture/screenshot of the receipt to [email protected], and I'll cover it for you.
