The path you're currently on is the "IC path." You'll need to take a look at the "manager's path" to grow those other skills: https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/the-managers-path/97814...

I’m still relatively early in my career, but I’ve greatly enjoyed The Manager's Path by Camille Fournier (https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/the-managers-path/97814...) as a way to learn more about mentorship, leadership, and management in tech.

Yes. You should be having this kind of career conversation with your current manager. Together, you should be able to find opportunities to grow and test out manager-like skills (e.g., hiring and managing an intern, mentoring junior devs, becoming a team lead, etc).

Camille Fournier's book, The Manager's Path, is a good read for learning about some of the common transitions from IC to manager to executive in software engineering.

Highest recommendation for The Manager's Path: https://www.oreilly.com/library/view/the-managers-path/97814...

Also excellent but require some translation to a tech setting: Becoming a Manager (Hill) and Managing (Mintzberg)

I highly recommend reading "The Manager's Path" by Camille Fournier. It's a great overview of the different things to consider while working your way up the ladder (specifically in engineering management).

"The Manager's Path: A Guide for Tech Leaders Navigating Growth and Change"

It's the book I wish I'd had when I was in your position 4-5 years ago.
