I think more interesting is the story of how a young woman did write Frankenstein.
I highly recommend Romantic Outlaws[1] a book which interleaves the lives of Mary Shelly and her mother Mary Wollstonecraft (mentioned in the article as well.) After learning more about her life, I felt authoring Frankenstein was pretty in character for Mary Shelley.
